"Valve Announces Making Games is Hard." No foolin' -- that's the title of their Portal 2-delay press release.
News Blips:
Valve, via "Aperture Laboratories LLC," announces that they're pushing back the release date of Portal 2 from late 2010 to sometime in 2011. 1UP reproduced the humorous press release, which Valve took as an opportunity to take jabs at overly critical fans. They suggest that "all life won't instantaneously stop" from the delay and that the game will be even better even though the company will be "missing an historic opportunity to create the first product-delay press release to mention that a product is being delayed to make it worse." If only more press releases were this fun.
That new Mortal Kombat teaser is not official -- it's a pitch intended for Warner Bros. execs. Actress Jeri Ryan, who played Sonya Blade in the video, explained in a Twitter
post that "it's not a game trailer. Actually was made for the director to sell WB on his vision for a reimagined MK film." She also points out that if fans want to encourage the studio, they can try messaging its Twitter
account. Cue Mr. Burns: "Release the fanboys."
Sam & Max developer Telltale is working on new games based on the Jurassic Park and Back to the Future franchises. The
AP reports that these titles will expand on the lore of each stories' universe. In the story, Telltale CEO Dan Connors says that the games aren't sequels but rather "a new interpretation of their worlds for a new medium." I wonder if the new Back to the Future game will have (mom) dating-sim elements.
It turns out that the PSP Go is just expensive market research. Sony Computer Entertainment Europe President and CEO Andrew House explained to
MCV that they introduced the PSP Go "in a mature lifecycle to learn more about what the consumer wanted, and we’ve definitely learnt a lot." He concedes that they thought consumers would be into the downloadable games but realized that they still like physical media. In short, Sony took a page from Sega's old playbook and decided to 32X their loyal customers.

Actress Jeri Ryan, who played Sonya Blade in the video, explained across a couple of Twitter posts that "It's not a game trailer. Actually was made for the director to sell WB on his vision for a reimagined MK film. I did it as a favor to a friend. No idea yet what WB's reaction to it was." She also points out that if fans want to give suggestions to the studio, they have a Twitter account. Alright fanboys, do your thing and make it happen.
